Starting with Site Manager 8.1, all rescue media created by Macrium Site Manager will include the boot media agent. This is a component built into the rescue media that enables communication between computers booted with the rescue media and the Site Manager server:
The Site Manager's connection details are built into the rescue media; once the rescue media has been booted, the boot media agent will automatically connect to the Site Manager server.
If the boot media agent cannot connect to a Site Manager, the connection button will show 'Connect'. A Site Manager's connection details can then be specified.
Manually restoring an image using the boot media agent
Once the boot media agent has connected to a Site Manager, the 'Log in' button will become active. Until a user with the relevant permissions has authenticated in the boot media agent, the 'Restore Agent' button will be disabled:
Select 'Log in' and enter the credentials of a user with the relevant permissions:
Once a user has authenticated, the 'Restore Agent' button will become active:
Selecting 'Restore Agent' will open the 'Agent Restore' dialogue box. If the computer is being managed by the Site Manager, the agent will be automatically detected.
Restore detected agent: AGENTNAME
Selecting 'Restore' with this option selected will automatically launch Macrium Reflect, map the repository share, and display the relevant backups for the selected computer in the 'Existing Backups' tab.
Select Alternative Agent
In the event that the computer, that has booted with the boot media, is not being managed by the Site Manager (e.g. in the case of restoring to a bare metal machine), or to restore an image of a different agent computer, select the 'Select Alternative Agent' drop-down menu.
A list of computers with backups in a repository will then be displayed:
Select a computer, then select 'Restore' to automatically launch Macrium Reflect, map the repository share, and display the relevant backups for the selected computer in the 'Existing Backups' tab.
